Larry & Paul
Every Saturday 2pm-6pm
Every Sunday 8am-12pm
Well, if it isn't Larry & Paul creating radio gold every weekend on 96.3 Radio Aire!
They will ease you through your Saturday afternoon with the help of their very posh friends Rudyard & Tarquin and at 5pm you take over the playlist as they launch the Happy Hour - sixty minutes of songs: all of them happy and all of them chosen by you, intrepid listener.
They return bleary-eyed and over-caffeinated every Sunday morning from 8am to wake you up in the most anarchic way they know how; join them at 10:15am for Cake 'o' Clock with a slice of cake and hot beverage of your choice and as sure as eggs is eggs the high-stakes game Laurence & The Machine (in which the GREATEST prize in radio is up for grabs) is played at 11am.
Amayonnaising.
About Larry and Paul
Larry, or Laurence Edwin Bundle Budd when he’s not done his chores, would probably bleed Blue and Yellow if you cut him. Please don’t attempt to check though.
Brought up in Crossgates, and living at various times in Chapeltown, Gledhow, and Beeston, he needs only to move to somewhere in West Leeds to complete all points of the compass.
Fact: Larry once was a whizz on computers for a mobile telephone firm in Leeds – but, at 96.3 Radio Aire and Magic 828 since 2007, he’s been busy forgetting all he knows about IT – merely showing off a knowledge of Excel formulae every once in a while, just for fun. It’s how he gets his kicks.
Larry started radio life in the picturesque Yorkshire Dales, reading sports results for the local radio station (Sheep 3, Cows 0 etc.), enjoyed a bizarrely brief stint at Barnsley Football Club’s match-day radio station, then blagged his way into 96.3 Radio Aire and Magic 828 using words like ‘proactive’ and ‘enthusiastic’.
In 2010, Larry paired up with funk and soul DJ, stand-up comedian, and all-round anarchist Paul ‘P Diddy’ Dunphy – in what the historians of the future will surely call “a duo”.
As a way to keep him from annoying everyone on a daily basis some wise fellow decided to employ Paul as a Radio Aire Street Team member and allowed him to press buttons in the spare studio for a bit to keep him happy. It was whilst doing this Paul was drawn to the bearded newsreader known as Larry. Paul then realised he could team up with Larry, make him do all of the hard work and automatically get 50% credit. So, the two of them got together and started working on a podcast all about films. Off the back of this, they were given their own show on Radio Aire in January 2010. Larry still does all of the work.
When he's not on-air, asleep, or doing silly voices at himself in a mirror Paul DJs at various places around Leeds - generally playing funk, soul and hip-hop. He also collects records, writes comedy sometimes and can be seen sampling Leeds' nightlife more often than is probably healthy (generally with Larry). He's also a huge film fan and James Bond geek.
He's also prematurely greying, has a twin sister and he's Irish (despite being born in Peterborough).
