All About JK & Joel @ Breakfast
Radio Aire has a new breakfast show! Here’s a little bit more about our newest presenters JK & Joel…
JK and Joel began their radio careers independently at the age of 16 and they’ve come a long way since joining forces on the breakfast show at Viking FM in Hull. From there they moved to the groups flagship station Key 103 in Manchester where they achieved record breaking figures and won several Sony Radio Awards including 2 gold awards for "UKs Best Breakfast Show" (they’re like the Oscars for radio!).
So how did it all go national? In early 2004 the call came from BBC Radio One - every DJ’s dream place to work, how could they turn it down? JK and Joel hosted the ‘Early Breakfast Show’ and the ‘Official Chart Show’ for 3 years. Over that period their chart show beat rival HIT40UK for the first time in 10 years. After leaving Radio One they hosted on Absolute Radio (formally Virgin Radio) presenting weekend lunchtimes and covering the breakfast show for Christian O`Connell.
And now the mission is to deliver a breakfast show for Leeds and West Yorkshire unlike any other on the radio!
They are without doubt two of the most versatile and likeable talents in UK broadcasting and now with a number of TV projects under their belts the boys are going from strength to strength.
On TV they’ve recently been seen hosting the third series of `Escape From Scorpion Island` on BBC 2 Sundays at 9am. It’s an action packed show where six children, aged between 11 and 13 years old, are marooned on an exotic island thousands of miles away from home. They compete against each other to be the first to conquer the island and escape from it.
JK and Joel are also the new hosts for Disney's brand new series, 'My Camp Rock', a talent show based on the movie, involving a UK talent search across the country. This will culminate in a live final, which will be a huge event on the Disney network.
JK and Joel’s multi-award winning CBBC show ‘Hider in the House’ was a massive hit with over 40 celebrities taking part from the likes of David Seaman to Myleene Klass hiding in the house of their biggest fans trying their best, with the help of the families and JK and Joel for their cover not to be blown. The show contained comedy sketches, messy challenges and edge of the seat moments with pure jeopardy.
In the Summer of 2007, JK and Joel made their ITV1 Saturday night debut with the entertainment show ‘Sing It Back` boasting a ratings success when beating BBC1s `Live Earth` in its first week. The boys were also part of ‘Top of the Pops Reloaded' (BBC1) Saturday morning presentation team, alongside Fearne Cotton and Sam and Mark. They played pop quizzes with celebrities, chart predictions and appeared in fun sketches.
During there time in Manchester hosting the breakfast show, JK and Joel managed to present 3 TV series; Motormanics, Playboyz and BBC’s Pure Soap.
On a more personal note, JK recently married former Hearsay and Dancing On Ice star Suzanne Shaw, with the wedding pictures featuring in OK Magazine.
Presenting the Radio Aire breakfast show takes the guys back to their commercial radio breakfast show roots in one of the most vibrant cities in the UK – bring on the good times!
